Determinantes individuais e organizacionais da competência digital de profissionais de contabilidade gerencial

Abstract

Objetivo: Propor um instrumento para mensurar a competência digital de profissionais de contabilidade gerencial e identificar os fatores individuais e organizacionais mais relevantes associados a essa competência.
Método: Realizou-se um levantamento com 109 profissionais de contabilidade gerencial para desenvolver e validar uma escala de competência digital composta por 10 itens, seguindo as etapas metodológicas de desenvolvimento de escalas (elaboração de itens, construção da escala e avaliação da dimensionalidade, confiabilidade e validade), bem como análises fatoriais exploratória e confirmatória. Também foram examinadas variáveis individuais (cargo, experiência, idade, gênero, escolaridade) e organizacionais (departamento de análise de dados, afinidade tecnológica, porte da empresa, transformação digital).
Resultados: Os resultados indicam que fatores individuais estão significativamente associados à competência digital dos profissionais de contabilidade gerencial. Especificamente, a competência digital declina com a idade, mas é mais elevada entre os profissionais que ocupam cargos de controladoria e aqueles com maior interesse em tecnologia. Além disso, a competência digital está negativamente associada à presença de um departamento de análise de dados independente na organização.
Contribuições: Este estudo apresenta várias contribuições. Primeiramente, representa um avanço na literatura sobre digitalização na contabilidade gerencial, evidenciando que características individuais desempenham um papel central no aprimoramento da competência digital na área contábil e financeira. Em segundo lugar, traz uma contribuição metodológica, ao introduzir uma nova escala para mensurar a competência digital de contadores de contabilidade gerencial. Por fim, oferece implicações práticas, ao sugerir que departamentos de análise de dados independentes podem, inadvertidamente, dificultar o desenvolvimento da competência digital desses profissionais.

Author Biographies

Giovani Del Col, University of São Paulo

Bachelor in Economics at Universidade de São Paulo (FEA-USP). Masters degree in Controllership and Accounting obtained at FEA-USP. Worked as an intern at FIPE and Itaú BBA in the area of microeconomic research. Has been working in the business consulting and software industry for 7 years, focused on solutions for accounting offices and ERP for factories. Has advanced knowledge in Database and programming, with focus on Software Engineering and Architecture.

Andson Aguiar, University of São Paulo

Andson Braga de Aguiar holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of São Paulo (USP) and acted as visiting PhD student at RSM Erasmus University (Netherlands). He is an Associate Professor at USP. He was a visiting professor at the University of Waterloo (Canada). He served as the director of courses at FIPECAFI and director of the FIPECAFI Faculty. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Accounting and Finance. He is also currently a member of the International Committee of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. He is the vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Management and Accounting at FEA-USP. He was a member of the advisory committee of CAPES in the area of Public Administration and Business, Accounting Sciences, and Tourism. Andson is also the Coordinator of the Management Accounting Division of the ANPCONT Congress, Director of the Management Accounting and Information Systems Modality of the UnB Congress of Accounting and Governance, and a member of the Scientific Committee of the 21st Brazilian Congress of Accounting. He is the coordinator of the Research Group on Performance Measurement and Management Control Practices, certified by CNPq and USP. He was an associate editor of the Brazilian Business Review (BBR), Journal of Education and Research in Accounting, Journal of Accounting, Management, and Governance, and Journal of Accounting and Organizations. He has obtained several research projects funded by renowned funding agencies and associations such as CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation), and IMA (Institute of Management Accountants). He has numerous publications in renowned national and international journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Accounting and Finance, Advances in Accounting, and Voluntas. He also has several presentations at international and national conferences.

Cláudio Wanderley, Federal University of Pernambuco

Claudio Wanderley received his PhD in Accounting from the Management School, University of Sheffield, UK. He is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. He was also a visiting scholar at Portland State University, Erasmus University, and Amsterdam University. He is the former Director of Institutional Relations of the Brazilian Accounting Association (ANPCONT), former Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAEER), and former Member of the AAA (American Accounting Association) Global Engagement Committee. He is associate editor of the Contabilidade e Finanças Journal (the best journal in the accounting field in Brazil) and head of the management accounting stream of the ANPCONT and Sao Paulo University Conferences. He has had a number of research projects funded by renowned organizations such as CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants). His main research interests include management accounting change, management accounting practices adaptation, identity and the management accounting profession, accounting systems in emerging economies, and public sector reforms. He has published his research in a range of highly rated academic Brazilian and international outlets (e.g. Management Accounting Research, Accounting, Auditing Accountability, and Accounting Forum) and has presented his work at numerous international and Brazilian conferences..

Victor Mancebo, University of São Paulo

Holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Master’s Degree in Controllership and Accounting from University of São Paulo (FEA/USP) and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Controllership and Accounting in University of São Paulo. As of the professional background, has experience as senior tax consultant in Deloitte Brasil and ConP Consultoria, a boutique tax advisory firm. Currently affiliated with the Research Laboratory on Management Practices (Laboratório de Pesquisa sobre Práticas Gerenciais - LPPG) and focused in research on Performance Management Systems and Digital Technologies in Accounting.|
